Unilever, the maker of Slim Fast products along with other products such as Skippy and Ragu, has issued a Slim Fast recall of their canned drinks because of possible contamination. The company says it may be contaminated with Bacillus cereus which can cause diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
Rita Chappelle, spokesperson for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has said that the recall affects over 10 million Slim Fast cans that have already been distributed in the United States.
This recall affects all ready-to-drink Slim Fast products including those currently on store shelves, in warehouses and those already in homes and it doesn’t matter what the lot number, expiration date or UPC numbers they have.
The production facility in Tennessee is working to find out and correct what the problem was during production that caused the contamination.
The Slim Fast recall does not affect any other Slim Fast products, including powdered mixes and snack bars. Only the ready-to-drink Slim Fast shakes are affected.
