How to Start Eating Healthy (The Easy Way!)
Eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle requires lifestyle changes to be made for the long term. Changing the way we eat can drastically improve our overall health and help us begin to reshape our bodies into looking like what we want them to look like.
The key to making big changes like this is to go into it gradually. Don’t start by throwing out everything and going to the grocery store and buying all low fat and fat free foods. Eating healthy does not mean that we can’t eat any foods containing fat, but to eat it in moderation.

Here are some tips to help you ease into eating healthier:
- Skim milk contains the lowest amount of fat of all milk varieties. If you’re accustomed to 2% milk, begin by first going down to 1%. Whether you choose to even buy skim is up to you. I still don’t. I can’t stand it because it’s just too runny for me.
- Buy wheat bread. Wheat bread contains fiber and whole grains that our bodies need to be healthy. White bread doesn’t have much of a nutritious value to it at all. It’s almost just like filler food. You’re taking in a bunch of carbohydrates with no other health benefits.
- Begin buying whole wheat pasta and waffles. The reason is similar to the previous tip. Our bodies do need carbohydrates, but whole wheat products are more nutritious and contain elements that our bodies can use, such as whole grains and fiber.
- Do not buy soda. If you are a soda or pop drinker and you drink at least 1 can of pop per day, you are likely to gain 15 pounds during any one year over somebody who does not drink soda. Soda contains a ton of sugar, it’s bad for your tooth enamel and it has zero value as far as nutrition goes. If you can forget about soda, you will probably lose a few pounds just by nixing the pop-drinking habit.
- Do not buy junk food. If you don’t buy items that are bad for you, you won’t be snacking on them. People tend to really crave the sweet stuff later at night which can really help pack on the pounds.
I personally have a hard time with chips (any kind, it doesn’t matter!) and Nutty Bars by Little Debbie – those things are the devil incarnate. So…I do not buy them. If I do…I get myself in trouble. I start snacking on them daily until they are gone. What I do find that helps me, is buying tortilla chips and salsa. That way I still get my chip fix, but it’s a healthier choice – especially with the added salsa. I also find that I don’t eat as many of them, compared to like Doritos or other kinds of calorie-packed chips.
You don’t have to switch out all of these things at one time, just begin with one. Once you’ve become used to living without it, switch something else and before you know it, you’ll be eating healthier than you ever have. Trust me, it works!

When people want to lose weight, they believe they need to give up all the foods they love and starve themselves. This is so wrong. Your advice about beginning gradually is so smart. People need to implement easy-to-make diet changes at first, then each week introduce something more. Doing this slowly will be much less painful. One saying I like to remember is “never be full and never be hungry”. Eating 4 to 5 small meals a day will keep you full throughout the day on fewer calories. Good luck everyone.
Thank you for your blog. I’ve really enjoyed exploring all your posts and workout ideas. It’s hard to take time to blog, but I appreciate your efforts. One of the tips I’d like to share is that of a nutrition cereal called Rokit Fuel. It’s new, so not a lot of people know about it, but it’s natural and has so much goodness in the ingredients! It doesn’t have anything in it you don’t recognize and makes you feel good after your eat it. It keeps you full longer and gives you the energy you need to live life!
