Housekeeping: CPT Test, September Challenge, First 5K + Yoga Review

Wow. This month has been crazy because I’ve been so overwhelmed with life. I’m in the process of trying to close on our home and I have my certified personal training test coming up on Saturday. We were supposed to close on 9/15 but had to change loan programs at the last minute (less than a week until closing) and now we’re looking at closing 9/23. However…we’re currently still in underwriting so I’m not even sure when/if we’re even moving yet. Two of our boys went back to school this fall and it’s a process to get back into the swing of things with that and sports going on as well.

The stress is compounded because of the fact that I have my CPT test scheduled for Saturday 9/24 at 8:00 am. Being a stay/work at home mom, trying to study for a major test and trying to clean and pack up your home because you *might* be moving at the end of the week is quite the challenge. I’m doing my best to make the test happen because I REALLY don’t want to reschedule again. If I don’t feel ready, I’m happy to push it back because if I fail…there’s a cost to retake the test and I don’t want that!

September Challenge

Speaking of challenges, my September running challenge isn’t going as great as I’d hoped. I’m only up to 33.33 miles and there’s just over 1 week left this month. I’m happy because I don’t think I’ve ever run 33 miles in a month – or even close to that – so I guess I can still be happy about it. :)

My First Official 5K Race

On September 10, 2011, I ran my very first 5K race – The Mill City Suds Run. It was so fun! My favorite part about it was the fact that it was so laid back (to the point where they didn’t even time you, boo) that it really helped ease the nerves. My unofficial time was around 35 minutes and it actually ended up being a bit over 3.3 miles, a normal 5K being 3.1, so that’s a pretty good time for me. People were dressed up in costumes, drinking beer and eating fried fish. Now I kind of know what to expect for future races and I’m excited to do another!

Don’t believe me? Here’s proof:

Just prior to crossing the finish line!

Yoga Program Review Coming Soon

In the coming days or weeks, I will be reviewing a yoga program here on my fitness blog. I’m really excited to try out the program and report back here. I think it’ll be helpful for any of those people out there who haven’t tried yoga but are interested. I haven’t done any yoga whatsoever – making me a complete beginner – so I can’t wait to try it.

Daily Workouts

My daily workouts have been seriously lacking which is the reason I haven’t been posting them, but I’m still pretty active on a daily basis. I’ve been doing a lot of walking and jogging on the treadmill but no strength training or circuit training as of late. I think reading daily workouts about treadmill using would get pretty monotonous and boring to read. I’ll be ready to dive in head first after we move (or find out we’re not moving, if that’s the case)…

I hope you’re having a fabulous September and I hope to be back with a lot more new blog posts SOON!

I ran my first 5k for the race for the cure last year and absolutely loved it! They’re so fun, just because of the atmosphere. I also discovered yoga almost 2 years ago. Though I still only dabble in yoga because I prefer to mix up my workouts, I find that yoga is the best for those days when I really need to relax. It’s a good workout, but it leaves me feeling so relaxed. My favorite pose is definitely savasana (corpse pose). After the resistance and stretching it’s really nice to just lie there and let all the tension go in savasana. Good luck on your challenge! It sounds like even if you don’t make it to 100 miles, you’ll still have accomplished something really great.
