Back to My Roots & In the Saddle Again

Good Morning! Thanksgiving week is here already, I can’t believe it. I’m definitely thankful for it though. The past few weeks have been rough (as I mentioned) and I’m ready to spend extra time with family. Sometimes longer-than-planned breaks are necessary. Don’t ever get down on yourself if you feel like you need some time off. There’s a big difference in getting burnt out and just being lazy. Besides, it’s okay to be lazy sometimes too. At least I think so. I always seem to go through a major burnout period once or twice a year.

What I’ve Been Up To

Although I haven’t done a workout in probably two weeks now, it doesn’t mean I’ve been sitting around twiddling my thumbs. I’ve been busy. Busy dealing with junk I’ve already talked about, busy trying to save money after paleo and busy registering to be a student again. It may be the end of the year, but I’m already working on new beginnings in hopes of making 2013 the best year yet.

During all of this, I’ve found a new love of couponing. I couldn’t help but not look into how to save more money after spending over $1,000 on food last month. WHAT??!?! Seriously. And now I’m hooked. I’m not gonna go buy 84 bottles of laundry detergent to stash in my coat closet but I did save $83 on our last weekly grocery trip and spent less than what we were spending at ALDI and Walmart Supercenter (the cheapest everyday price stores around me). AND I saved over $30 on my last trip to Target. My entire bill was only $34. I say only because usually when I walk outta Target with 5 bags it’s usually well over $100!

I’m amazed at how much money you can save on the things you buy on a regular basis. Of course there aren’t usually coupons on produce so we just buy whatever is in-season and on sale at our local grocery stores. Lately it’s been sweet potatoes, yams, russet potatoes, apples and pineapple. YUM. I also learned that I prefer yams over sweet potatoes.

More on all that later. :)

Back to Where it all Started

My husband told me about Bodybuilding.com during our first year of dating and it’s where everything started for me. I purchased my first supplements there and I found my first workout program there. It also lead me to Jamie Eason’s LiveFit Trainer last year. Guess what? Starting today, I’m going back there. The next workout program I will be following is a 3 days/week program which is perfect for me because I’ve always been a fan of every other day workouts. I love the Beachbody programs I’ve done so far but after doing 3 of them in a row (with DAILY workouts), I’m ready for something different. Les Mills Pump is still my fave and I’m guessing it’s because it’s fun AND the Pump workouts are every other day. I am not one of those people who enjoy daily workouts. I just don’t. I definitely applaud those who do!

Anyway, I’ll be doing this 5 x 5 workout along with my husband and I can’t wait to get started today. I’ve already printed the workouts for the week and once I get back from dropping kids off at school and eating breakfast, I’ll be on my way! The one thing that’s kinda fun about taking breaks is how excited you get to get back into it! The not so fun part? Feeling weak. Haha.

—–> To keep myself accountable I WILL be blogging my workouts.

I’m going to keep cardio out of it just for the time being and concentrate on strength training. This is actually how I did it when I first started this journey back in 2008. It really kind of feels like I’m starting over but not exactly from scratch. :)

I’m excited!!

Will definitely post how I did on my workout later.

Have a great day!

  1. I’m so glad that you were able to take that needed time off, lady :) I need to listen to my body and heart more where that is concerned. You’re inspiring me that it’s more than ok to do so! I’m also glad that you found something to make you excited about fitness again…can’t wait to see how it goes :)

  2. It sounds like the break was exactly what you needed. Had you tried to carry on regardless, the fitness world might have lost you for good.
