4/22: Earth Day Leg Workout and Steady Cardio

Heavy Leg Workout - Squats

Heavy Leg Workout - Squats

Happy Earth Day!

I’ve been having some lower back pain the last couple of days. I’m guessing it’s from the back workout I did on Tuesday. It was really bad yesterday and I thought I was okay to workout today until I started doing squats. For this reason, I didn’t even finish up my last set and I decided to skip deadlifts altogether. I was actually so frustrated with my squats that I didn’t even write down how many reps I did. I just know it was either 10 or 13.

There’s no sense in risking a back injury. I really need to work on strengthening my lower back. I just learned today reading my study materials that over 85% of people experience lower back pain at some point in their life. Strengthening the lower back is very important so you are better able to complete other tasks, including exercises targeting other areas (such as the legs, as I learned today).

After my leg workout I decided to do some steady state cardio. It’s always better to move than lay around if you’re experiencing muscle soreness. It’ll actually help make it feel better faster.

Also, today marked the last day of this workout program and I will be switching to a new one on my next workout day. I’m excited to put a new workout plan together!

Leg Workout

Leg Extensions

  • Warm up: 2 sets x 20 reps, 35#
  • 1 set x 15 reps, 77.5#

Squats (ugh)

  • Warm up: 2 sets x 12 reps, 45#
  • 1 set x 10 reps, 90# (it was either 10 or 13, I don’t remember)

Leg Curls

  • Warm up: 1 set x 15 reps, 35#
  • 1 set x 11 reps, 60# (completed 1 more rep than my last leg workout)

Deadlifts

  • Skipped. :(

Cardio Workout (on treadmill)

  • 4 mph, 10% incline

Total time: 22 minutes

Total distance: 1.466 miles

Total calories burned: 247

Now it’s finally time for dinner. We’re havin’ sketty! I’m ready to eat a bucket-full. :D

I hope you’re having a great week!

All the best,

~Melinda
