3/10 Workout: Ab Exercises & Steady State Cardio

Ab workoutI did an unexpected abdominal workout today and it was probably the most intense ab workout I’ve ever done. Awesome! My husband and I both wanted to do cardio today since we didn’t yesterday so while one of us ran, the other one did abs. It worked out pretty well!

Abdominal Workout

I got the ab workout I did from the March 2010 issue of Oxygen Magazine. It was basically 1 giant set of 5 different abdominal exercises and I went through the circuit 3 times. And see the girl in the photo inside this post? I’m pretty sure I wasn’t smiling like that. It was grueling, I was sweating and I was nauseated.

Kneeling Cable Crunches (modified)

*We don’t have any cable equipment in our basement, so I just hung a resistance band folded in half, from our squat rack and used that as a “cable”.

  • 3 sets x 20 reps

Hanging Knee Raise

  • 3 sets x 20 reps

Weighted Crunch on Stability Ball

  • 3 sets x 20 reps

Reverse Crunch on Flat Bench

  • 3 sets x 20 reps

Oblique Lying Crunch

  • 3 sets x 20 reps

Steady State Cardio Workout

Normally I would do a longer cardio workout, but instead I did a short workout at a fairly good rate of speed and maxed the incline. I burned 1/2 the calories I normally burn in one hour, in 20 minutes. Might be doing more cardio workouts like this one:

  • Warm-up @ 4 mph for 2 minutes
  • Steady state @ 6 mph, 10% incline for 15 minutes
  • Cool-down @ 4 mph for 3 minutes

Total Distance: 1.931 miles

Total Time: 21 minutes

Total Calories Burned: 310

I haven’t done any ab workouts in forever, I know my entire midsection will be hurting tomorrow!

Have a great night,

Melinda
