2010: Goals, What I’m Looking Forward To
Happy New Year! 2009 was actually an incredible year for me and I almost don’t want it to end. That’s pretty new for me. I’ve struggled in the past, just like everyone else, but for once I just feel like I want 2009 to keep going. I get a little sad thinking that it’s coming to an end, but I know that there are many things to look forward to in 2010.
I’m really looking forward to:
- Celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary. This is a biggie for me and is very important. I can’t wait to celebrate with my husband on our first anniversary. That will be taking place July 25, 2010. In the meantime…I’d like to concentrate on doing some other things.
- This blog. I plan on writing more articles and having more giveaways since the last one (and also my very first one) was such a success.
- Summer. Or at the very least, Spring. Minnesota winters are long and cold!
- Saving money to buy our first home. We’re currently renting a home and I hate renting. I’ve been renting since I moved out of my parents’ home 6 years ago.
Fitness-related goals of mine:
- Average 2 cardio days per week. This is somewhat low. Realistically I’d like to do cardio at least 3 days a week, but since I have a hard time doing both cardio and strength training regularly, I’m going to begin with a goal of twice per week for cardio workouts.
- Take a 1 week break every 8 weeks. This really helps to keep me focused and motivated. By the 8 week mark I’m getting a little bored and tired of workouts and then by the time my week off is over, I’m ready to get back to work! Always remember that time off is also important so you don’t burn yourself out and just quit altogether.
- Lose 5 pounds. Now I’m not completely set on the 5 pounds, but I think I still have a few pounds of body fat I could stand to lose – especially after the cheesecake my Mom made for Christmas. It’s finally gone, thank goodness. That stuff is the devil! Maybe my goal should be more along the lines of losing 3% body fat. That might make more sense.
When setting fitness goals, or weight loss goals, it’s important to think about how much time you can make for your workouts and it’s also important to set attainable goals. Don’t just set a goal of getting thinner, or losing 50 pounds. Be specific and realistic. First try for losing 2 pounds per week. That is very doable. Slow and steady wins the race!
