12/16: High-Intensity Interval Training + Steady State Cardio
Today was another cardio day. I think from now until the end of the year I’ll be on a cardio spree for 2 reasons. The first being because I’m on a roll and I don’t wanna stop right now and the second reason being so I can burn the extra calories I will probably be taking in at holiday dinners. I have a little back jiggle I’d like to get rid of anyway and maybe lose another 2 pounds-ish?
Here’s today’s cardio workout:
High-Intensity Interval Training
- 5 minute warm-up @ 4 mph
- Intervals for 25 minutes; 30 second sprints @ 9 mph followed by a 60 second recovery @ 4 mph
Steady State Cardio
- 5 minutes @ 5.5 mph immediately following the HIIT
- 5 minute cool-down @ 4 mph
So basically I didn’t do a ton of steady state cardio, but after doing 25 minutes of intervals, I didn’t even expect to be able to do any so I’m okay with it!
Total Distance: 3.499 miles
Total Time: 40 minutes
Total Calories Burned: 411

Hello! I like how you are so personal with your articles. I think that’s the best way to relate to readers. Staying fit and healthy during the holidays is tough but just taking 40 minutes (like your above workout) can maintain your weight and make you feel great. Interval training is one of the best ways to lose weight. Keep it up! 2010 will be a great year. I think our nation is in need of a fitness revolution. Obesity is a huge problem. Hopefully we can inspire others to start some fitness activity and get healthy.
Have a Happy New Year!
Jen
